What will I be studying?

This course has been designed to provide an engaging and stimulating introduction to the world of sport. It encourages personal development through practical participation and performance in a range of sports and exercise activities. It also gives learners the opportunity to develop the communication skills needed for working in the sport sector, as they progress through the course. This can be achieved through presentations and in discussions where they have the opportunity to express their opinions.

Learners will cover three units of work:

  • Understand the Body and the Supporting Technology for Sport and Activity (written assignments)
  • The Principles of Training, Nutrition and Psychology for Sport and Activity (external written exam paper)
  • Applying the Principles of Sport and Activity (written assignments)

In order to gain a high grade in this subject, you will need to be competent at working independently, possess good IT skills, able to work as part of a group and meet deadlines.

What can I do afterwards?

This qualification gives learners the opportunity to progress to other vocational qualifications, such as the Pearson BTEC Level 3 Nationals in Sport or Sport and Exercise Sciences, or onto GCE AS or A Level, and, in due course, to enter employment in the sport and active leisure sector. It also gives learners the opportunity to develop a range of skills and techniques, personal skills and attributes essential for successful performance in working life.
