What will I be studying?

Students will study a diverse range of texts by authors such as J B Priestley, Charles Dickens and
William Shakespeare combined with the studying of a poetry anthology with the likes of Imtiaz
Dhaker, Seamus Heaney and Percy Bysshe Shelley. They will also learn how social, historical and
cultural context impacts on these works, encountering issues such as racism, the changing roles of
women and even the impact of music in play texts.

What can I do afterwards?

The skills developed while studying English can open the door to an incredible variety of careers and courses, with many further education courses and jobs now requiring a GCSE qualification in this subject. Students can choose to study English at A Level and then as a degree subject or to enable you to enter professions such as a law, journalism, teaching, social work, engineering and the armed forces
